Occasionally, VOLT publishes special issues.  Issue #13, out in spring 2007, will THE WAR ISSUE.  For this issue, we are looking for work addressing any of the wars our country is currently engaged in: the war in Iraq, the war on drugs, the war on terrorism, the war against intelligence, etc.  We are particularly looking for work addressing the subject in direct, visceral, imaginative ways, and that utilizes the full space VOLT's pages allow (no whining about George Bush, please.)  We are interested, though not solely, in seeing work that somehow incorporates the visual, whether through collage, construction, or typography.  Given the extremity of our moment, we are interested in seeing poets push their usual approaches to the side.

The War Issue will be both a document of the current moment and an homage to BLAST, the great modernist magazine edited by Wyndham Lewis.  BLAST's third and final issue was also a war issue, and found print at the start of WWI, which also destroyed the magazine.  Deadline for  this issue is April 30, 2006.

Issue #14 will be another special issue, ART ON ART.  For this issue, VOLT is seeking essays written by poets and prose writers on another artist of any medium.  The term "essay" may be interpreted formally or loosely.  For this issue we are asking that poets and writers not make links between the artist they are discussing and their own work.  Visual representations of the artist (whether she/he be a painter, a composer, an animator, etc.) would be welcome additions to the essay.  Writers who are interested in participating in this issue are encouraged to query first.  Deadline for this issue is October 1, 2007.
